Re: keg mash tun w/ false bottom problemo

I'm using a 10 gallon round cooler and a metal domed false bottom like the one pictured. I have had it filled to the top with grain many times. I batch sparge and when I do, I suck the mash dry with my March-809. Why have I never collapsed a false bottom? Different gauge thickness on the false bottom maybe?

hey big tom, I just had the same issue. I collapsed my domed false bottom during recirc with 41 lbs of grain in my 15.5 gal keg. My mill was set at .045. I got several years out of that false bottom, so I'm thinking it was tired. I'm going to buy a new one and add some structural support on the interior. What did you do? Have you had anymore issues? cheers

Well my problem is still there, I have not done much to resolve it yet. I brewed up another batch last weekend, but forgot to adjust my mill  I did not recirc for more then a few mins and the brew went well, but the bottom collapsed partially this time. I am planning on getting it back into shape again, and build some supports for it, and I think that it will be fine after that.
