Thanks for all the suggestions! I managed to get where I think I am safe. I used some bar keepers friend and scrubbed it down, then dismantled it completely and put it in the dishwasher with PBW for two cycles. When I took apart the valves, it was obvious that the residue which was causing the problem is held up where cleaner couldn't reach. I stripped the valves, washed, sanitized, and put everything back together and I am back in business!
