Play nice, boys. This isn't the "Grammar Corner," or the "Perfect Typist Network." It's about beer.

Villiam, however, is fair game.

I assume you lost the tube that the thing came in, originally? I think that is what most people use. Maybe search a scientific supply online - but you will probably pay more for the pyrex cylinder than you did for the hydrometer. It will last a lifetime, and be good for other tasks - like blending....

No actually I got the hydrometer at PETCO, so it was just the hydrometer. Now, I'm thinking on going back and just exchanging it for this:

Do you think it will still work???

...This is what I got before....

See, I'm trying to brew beer, not buy a bunch of nifty fucking gadgets to show off to friends. But I do want to brew great beer. UGH!

How about you go to your LHBS and support them? Buy a real hydrometer meant for beer. It will have real scales on it - like Plato or Brix. And it will come in an appropriate sized tube. You will also be keeping your local guy afloat (no pun intended).

Now I'm sure you can get great deals at PETCO for thermometers, but do you really want to use an anal thermometer for your beer?

It is mighty tempting though, with those discounts they have on used rectal thermometers.

I don't like coming off as an asshole on these forums because the majority of people are here to learn about brewing, but if you just want to "make beer" and not buy a $4.75 piece of equipment, and want to save a few cents buying incorrect equipment at PETCO than a LHBS, then just go fucking buy a Mr. Beer Kit. If you want to brew beer correctly, use the right hydrometer with a hydrometer jar (eg. the one I suggested 15 minutes after you started this thread), or even better, a refractometer.

Cut him some slack man. He just started brewing. Maybe he didn't see your link you posted after you played grammar nazi. I for one didn't see it either.
