what kind of CFC do you have? If it's a homemade one, you may be able to do what i did last weekend.

I used to have an IC, then i converted it into a CFC. Since i just got done building my brew sculpture, and plan to eventually get to a whirlpool chiller, i stripped the garden hose of my CFC and soldered the copper inside it onto another 20 ft of copper i bought at a big box store for $40. So now i have a 45 ft IC chiller, which only cost me $40 and an hour of soldering.

I thought about that. I have a homemade cfc and storebought 25' ic. I could combine them. BUT, it would be so much harder to remake the cfc. I have to be sure - there ain't no hole in the washtub, as emmet otter's mom used to say.

Along the same line as this discussion...

I am planning on buying a simple 25' or 50' IC from MoreBeer in the next few days, but want to recirculate the water through a bcuket of ice water to speed it up. Obviously I can do this with 2 sections of hose and a pump that will draw the water from my icewater bucket.

Anyone have a link to one or brand name of a pump that they use that they would reccomend for this purpose?

Any regular sump pump from HD/Lowes will do. I have the "$50 model" that works great for recirc'ing water.

yes, that makes sense... it's submerged, and all I'd need to do is fit the output to the intake hose of the chiller tubing, I'm sure I could McGuyver something to make that work. Awesome - thanks!

Stuck CFC

Mon Nov 17, 2008 3:24 am

Hiya all, I have a Chillout Mashmaster counter flow chiller and also do 10 gallon batches.
I am not worried about the cold break but I am having problems with hops slowing the CFC, esp with IPA's
I try to whirlpool to get a nice mound of trub, but after a while it starts to flow into the CFC with the motion of the wort.

I am looking for some ideas for stopping the hops. My kettle is a flat bottomed 50 litre. I dont really want to boil with hops in a bag as I have heard it lowers usage (does anyone do this and they find it ok?)
Else any other hop stopping ideas that seem to work and not clog up would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you exclusively use whole hops, then either the hopstopper, or a stainless scrubbie on your diptube will do wonders. If you use pellets - then your fucked, like the rest of us.
