Screw hop drying... I'd be making banana chips like they're going out of style!

Hey, since you can't use it for hops, send it my way!

I really can't use it for hops? I thoguht I had heard of people using these things successfully! Damn, there goes a whole $4!

Does anyone use a food dehydrator successfully? If not, I guess I'm going to go buy a few cheap filters...

Thanks!

Dude, this is only the tip of the iceberg.., no make that the entire Polar Ice Cap......

Brew now. Brew heavily. Brew as much as you possibly can in the next 9 months. Trust me. You will not have the chance (or the money) for 2 or 3 more years.

Just sayin'

Here's my setup. All I use is a cheap 1200w heater, screens off the house and few spare sheets of plywood. It kicks out just enough heat to overcome PNW dampness.

This season I used a food dehydrator solely on my hops and they turned out great. I guess it depends on which type you have. I have an Excalibur dehydrator and I can adjust the temperature and it has a fan to circulate the air.

Madtown Brew wrote:Pretty sure this has been mentioned on the forum before, but Alton Brown from Good Eats has a great dehydration method from his dried fruit show that works perfectly for hops. I couldn't find a youtube video from that episode, but I'm sure it's there if someone wants to search it out for better illustration.

All it requires is several cheap furnace filters and a box fan. Lay your hops out in one even layer on a filter, cover with another filter and continue to layer until all hops are spread out. Bungie cord (or tape) the whole stack of filters on top of a box fan that is raised off the floor a couple inches with blocks or books or whatever is handy. Turn on the fan and the hops will be dry in about 24-36 hrs.

its been he use some cheap furnace filters , thanks for the explanation :drink
