A competition would actually be fun. I could see Jamil building up a 2000 ml starter for the 2.5 gallon Mr. Beer kit.

Very true. But it is not as "easy" as buying a Mr.Beer kit. You'd have to admit, for a non-brewer, the Mr.Beer kit is really the only heavily marketed beginner beer kit. I know Brewers Best has their beginners kit, but Mr.Beer is on the forefront of getting homebrewing out there to the masses. What someone needs to come up with is a simple "transitional" book. Sort of a, "so you've made beer... here's how to make it better" kind of book. It would have to be marketed to the Mr.Beer crowd.

But what do I know, I haven't brewed with Mr.Beer.
I'd have to admit, if someone gave me one, I would give it a try.

And, cranking out a batch that small has got to be a breeze...

If only we could get Mr.Beer to sponsor one of these contests...
I would think that enough of us got together with a competition at our backs, there would be some decent beer made. Think of the publicity!!

Mr.Beer, please ship the first kit to:

Patrick Sundberg
14623 Lynwo.....

Who am I kidding, that would never work!

I got a PM from EricAtMrBeer today that showed some concern over the customer service I've experienced. He also mentioned wanting to keep any negative comments off the boards and offered to spam my email!
Nice guy

Dave--

Sorry about the misunderstanding.... When I said

"Anyways, I know that you don't want your inbox flooded with people selling you stuff, so I'll just leave it at that,"

I meant it as a joke-- certainly not a threat. I know that the BN boards are not the place to resolve customer service issues, so I was implying that after addressing the concern you expressed about our shipping time, I would let the issue rest. Again, I'm sorry for my lack of clarity.

I was skeptical at first, but digging around the Mr.Beer website a bit, I would have to say that it appears that they're doing a good job. Looking at their recipie section, it looks like they offer everything in the way of extract brewing (including fruit and pellet hops).

I'd say, not to bad. And not much less than what I was doing for the first couple of years. It seems like they have everything covered for the basic brewer, stopping short of grains.

I still think we need a Mr.Beer show...

The lady who owns the store where I get my craft beer wants to get into homebrewing stuff. Not like lhbs style but get some stuff in her store. She is kind of a trinkety odds and end liqour store and craft beer selection.

She already has some little sausage making kits which I would imagine to a serious hobbiest sausage maker would be the equivalant of a Mr. Beer kit to a guy who brews AG.
But one day I was in there and a guy laid down $40 and bought a bucnh of it and he is going to give it a try. Maybe he will be turned on to it and take it up serious, maybe he won't. But at least he had a way to see what it was all about.
She has some other stuff to make I think, jerky, saurkraut, pickling. Then just you know shit you buy for people at christmas time when you don't really know what to get them. Mr. Beer would fit right in.

I looked at the MR.Beer website and got her some contact information, I think she is going to bring it into her store. I would agree that they do move the novice up to the point where I wonder why they don't just sell a 5 gallon bucket with the Mr. Beer logo on it.

But just like the sausage kits it just may be the window of opprotunity for someone to get into the hobby. In fact I have thought once or twice about buying her sausage kits.

Disclaimer
To my knowledge I have never even been in the same building as a Mr. Beer kit.

I think Eric may be in the wrong place to defend and discuss his product. Anyone who reads this forum is way more advanced than a Mr.Beer.

Its like trying to convince a group of pro bass fisherman that they should recommend a Scooby-Doo Zebco kiddie reel to their aspiring fishing buddies.
