All of my hos

Sat Mar 22, 2008 4:26 pm

I mean hose. I was at a buddy's house and we got into this debate over hose cleaning. LOL That sounds bad. Anyhow, he had this hose with beer in it for a couple of days. I'd toss it or use it somewhere between boil and chill. Now, what he did was soak his hoses in bleach solution for a few hours and then tossed them in a keg with star san to sit for days. Half of me wanted to say, "Brilliant!" yet the other 4 personalities were a bit uptight with that.

I'd clean it, and soak it like he did.

Sounds like he was peeking in my window while I was cleaning my hoses.

I'm wasting Hose!

Well......damn. I've been tossing hose away for years that I probably could have bleached/star sanned back to life. Weak!! I'll put that to practice! I was just a bit over-worried about infection.

If I'm really worried. I'll boil them after all the bleach/starsan soaks.

(Yes I have had stuff I was THAT worried about)

LMAO

As far as the post, yeah, a good soak will do good. I'd rather use a few ozs of cleaner & sanitizer than have to keep buying hose at over $2 a foot

I had come up with a piece of cloth attached to a fishing line in order to pull the cloth through the hose to get a better cleaning. I try not to do this everytime since it will scratch the hose a little. Most of the time, if the hose doesn't have any crud in it, I'll just soak it in my bleach/vinegar solution and let it drip dry.

I have had some funky hoses and I just soak them in an oxyclean solution for a few hours, and then a iodophour solution for about 30 minutes. Then I store them away. Before brewing the process is repeated. The only thing I hate is that tint the iodophour solution gives the hoses. The end of my blowoff tube is tinted pretty bad now since I add a very little amount of iodophour in the container the end it bubbles in sits.
