Stock pot size

I am new to brewing and I am just looking at equipment to buy. I am looking at getting either a 36 or a 44 qt stock pot. There is a 17 dollar difference in these two. They are both stainless stell. Which one should I get? Thanks

I would go with the 44 quart pot. You won't have near as much problem with boil overs with the larger pot. $17 isn't much when you figure how much it will cost you to replace the other pot if you decide it is just a little too small. The savings in cleanup time is worth the money.

so when im looking for a wort chiller, what size should i look for if i get the 44 qt? the 50 ft wort chiller?

yes. bigger again is better.

I have good luck with my 40 quart pot and 25' chiller. I do have a 50' chiller that I built for my converted keg. It is simply too tall for the 44 qt. pot even when the coils are squished together. I can only get about 30' of it below wort level in the smaller pot.

Thanks for the advice, I think I will get the 44 qt with the 25' chiller. Thanks everyone for your input. Hopefully my first brew will turn out good.

IMO, always get the biggest pot you can afford and/or have space for. You'll thank yerself later.
