Extreme noob question v. conical fermenter

Wed Jun 24, 2009 8:12 pm

This is a really noob question and feel stupid for asking, but I'm going to ask anyways. Still being very new and have only done 1 extract home brew, but with more brewing to come soon, I have to ask...

What is a conical fermenter and what is the purpose of one? Do you use it instead of a carboy for your final fermentation before bottling or kegging?

Again, I'm a total noob and haven't done a whole lot of reading or research on a lot of the brewing equipment, but figured I'd ask.

Probably a good time to mention that the new B3 conicals look fucking AWESOME and kept me perma-erect for all of club night. Hmm, or maybe it was the way that Kim kept winking at me....

They fixed all the problems that I had with the old one. I was on the fence for the longest time between the Blichmann and the B3 model. Now - it's a no brainer. I need to sell a kidney or something. I don't think they will be available for a few months, but my brewing equipment budget is flatlined until my tax return next year.

I hope you're not planning to sell your kidney. You shot that wad last week in Oakland. Get a fresh kidney from someone.
