I wouldn't think so as long as there is not gap at the edge of the false bottom.

Blasphemy! It's not a JZ whirlpool stirrer. The money and time spent trying to figure out a stirrer and dial it in properly should just be channeled into getting one pump and a few hoses...

I have a pump and a few hoses. I also have a stirrer and motor for it that I was going to sit on top of my electric HLT. I figure after the sparge I could just move it over one spot to whirlpool after the boil.

If you've got a motor and a stirrer, it would be much more helpful in the mash tun than the kettle...

Just sayin...

Tour a few breweries and see who's got a mixer in their mash tun and see who's got a mixer in their kettle...

There's a reason for that

My stirrer is the stainless steel mix-stir, the kind you use to make a vortex in wine. It wouldn't do much in a mash tun. I know commercial brewers often have mixers in their mash tun. They also whirlpool one way or another.
