I see... I have one more suggestion then.

My tap water here (Alaska) is quite cool, but initially I didn't think to use it. So I purchased a relatively cheap pump at Home Depot and recirulated water from a cooler with ice in it. You could od the same with dryice then you wouldn't have to waste so much water. YMMV

I don't pay for my water so... whatever.

One reason that I would not want to put the dry ice directly into the boil pot is the I am conserned that the rolling action will release the hops aroma.

I remember talking to the guys at a nearby ice plant about the idea of using dry ice for cooling wort and other liquids. The dry ice itself is "food grade" however in the handling process it often picks up all sorts of contaminants such as grease and dirt from equipment, having been set or dropped on the floor or other dirty surfaces. The stuff is not intended to be put in direct contact with food products so they don't worry about sanitation. In short, you don't want that crap in your wort. In a container in your wort will work just fine.

I am thinking that I will just stick with my original plan of using the dry ice in a bucket and use that as a prechiller.
I want to drop the wort temp down as fast as possible and also not waste a ton of water. Water is free, but conservation is priceless
