Thanks.

I started with a Mr. Beer kit that I got from my sister in law as a Christmas gift 5 years ago. I made a LOT of beer with it over the next year and a half that followed. I was buying bulk LME, hops, grains, etc from my LHBS and brewing it in the little Mr. Beer keg for quite a while before I finally went with a normal sized setup. It was shortly thereafter (3 months?) that I went full blown - corny kegs, mini-mashes then AG.

Don't knock Mr. Beer. I owe it a lot. It was what got me hooked, and there are a lot of others around too.

+1 more on the regifting. It's not a bad thing if it's for the betterment of the hobby. It's for the greater good.

I think you should show your friend how to brew with the Mr. Beer. Or kick them in the nuts
