Mash tun ball valve

Wed Dec 26, 2007 4:48 pm

I need a quick answer here, my buddies about to install a stainless steel ball valve on my cooler mash tun. He's going to use a galvanized steel nipple top pas through the wall of the cooler...any reason he shouldn't? Is galvanized ok at all?

If he sprung for the stainless valve why not for the nipple as well? Id use brass or copper before Id use galvinized. Is the nipple steel or brass underneath, Brass wouldnt be so bad but steel would rust.

I bought the stainless. It's a galvanized steel nipple and it would come into contact with the wort/liquor.

Galvanized will NOT last, it can not handle the pH range that is introduced in brewing. Plus you don't want to thread dissimilar medals together, one of them will eventually loose.
