Looking at burners for new sculpture

Tue Jan 03, 2006 11:49 am

Anybody use this kind of burner?

Image

They come in 100,000 200,000 and 300,000 BTUs. I'm thinking I would like two of these for my sculpture I'm getting ready to start building. One for under the HLT and one under the kettle.

Comments???

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.

Looking around a bit and I think I may go with this from Bayou Classic...

This high pressure replacement cast iron burner or element gives out an 150,000 BTU flame. The hotter the flame, the better. . . right!? Includes air shutter and spring.

and it's only $11

Lufah, those B3 burners sure are sweet looking. Some day, I'd like to convert to NG and with the lower BTU and pressure of NG, it would be necessary to have all the extra jets.

If you're looking to use propane, make sure you get the high pressure regulator and stick with the $11 burner. The extra jets would still be nice but it would be tough to justify the extra cost unless you have Dr Scott's paycheck. I use one similar to the $11 model and at only 50% output, the flames are comin up the side of the kettle (which becomes wasted propane). Now, if you're doing a 30 gallon boil, then the fancy burner becomes important again even with propane.

Ya I think I like the first burner more because it looks cool than anything else. I was looking at the 300,000 BTU jobs, but I really don't need it. 10gal is the biggest I do.

It says its 146k btu. i do 10 gallon batches in a keggle so i am going to be timing the boil rate and speed this weekend. I will be taking pics also to post. I went with the b3 200,000ng for my hot liquer tank and 300,000 for my boil kettle. you never run out of ng during your boil . I have them on my sculpter i built with 28 gal kettles, so i think the 200,000 burners would be fine for ten gal.
