ok, I'm not crazy. I bought the FE614 from B3 and the sensor from the temp controller only clicks into the top of the thermowell (I didn't actually try this myself, I called the gf to confirm what I thought) it doesn't go all the way to the bottom.

that can't be right, can anyone else confirm this for me?

hoo boy, three posts in a row. ok, got off the phone with B3, they claim that I need to sand down the probe ever so slightly so it will fit into the thermowell. they claim that ranco recently changed the probes and that a light sanding will fix it.

ok, one last update. B3 was right, sanding just a tiny part of the probe off allowed me to push the probe all the way to the bottom of the thermowell. temperature on the Ranco reads the same as the stick-on.

I've also decided not to drop the temperature at this point as I'm worried the yeast would not enjoy a 5 degree temperature drop in the middle of a vigArous fermentation (I've had to switch to a blow-off tube, only the second time ever in a 6.5.)
