champagne bottle for yeast starter

Tue Apr 17, 2007 7:31 pm

I have access to free champagne bottles. I"ve been using them for bottling because I'm basically sick of cleaning and bottling 12 oz bottles. Do you think a champagne bottle with a stopper would make a good container for doing a yeast starter?

I've never done oa starter before, but it sounds like it might make an improvement to my mediocre extract brews.

Thanks-
Andy

If they are the 750ml bottles I would say that they are too small to use for a starter. I use a gallon jar that used to house pickles. You can also get gallon jugs with apple juice in them and they would work just f'n dandy imho.
