Any thoughts on an this all grain cooler system from B3?

Sat Feb 03, 2007 3:03 pm

In the next month I think I am going to upgrade my brewing. I plan on going from extract partial boils to all grain. I will need a new kettle, the all grain equipment and the wort chiller. I do have a burner.

I was looking at this cooler system: http://morebeer.com/product.html?product_id=15628

Will this be all I will need to go all grain (other than ingredients)? Any thoughts on this kit or should I look at something different. Any advice would be great.

Thanks,

I think that kit is all you will need. The only problem I see is the 5 gallon coolers that it comes with. They are fine for small to medium beers. If you want to do something bigger beer wise It will not be large enough. In fact I just sold mine cause it was a pain to use. Batch spargin is the way to go gor me.$30 for the mash tun. Then all you would need is the bigger pot.

I second the nomination for the 10 gallon system. I have the 10 gallon and have been really happy with it for making 6 gallon batches. It'll hold up to 25 lbs of grain at 1.25 qt/lb and I've found that most of my brews at 1.050-1.060 are at 5-6 gallons of mash volume. I've even gone as far as turning mine into a pseudo-SMART system like this:

I would just buy the pot and go down to Wal-mart or the like to pick up a couple of larger coolers and convert one to a mash tun. You can do that for half the price of that kit and have a proper size mash tun.

Details on building a tun can be found at:

I used a 60 qt cooler for quite a while before i got my converted keg mash tun. I got my cooler at walmart and the parts from Home Depot.

Thanks for the advice, think I am going to go that way with the cooler and batch sparge. Seems to be a bit easier and more economical.
