Q.D.

Mon Apr 13, 2015 2:55 am

I'm setting my brewstand up with a pump and quick disconnects. For the brewers that use Q.D. Do you prefer female or male Q.D. on the silicone tubing? I don't want to set it up one way and wish i have done it the other way. I'm not even sure if it makes a difference. Thanks.

So, Ball lock vs. Tri-Clamp vs. SNAPLOCK. I use Ball lock everywhere I can just die to setup ease, but tri clamp has the ease of cleaning.

I run female on the hoses and male on the base equipment. Tri-clamp does not matter of course.

I put both male and female ends on my hoses. That way, I can grab any extra hose lying around and lengthen one if need be. All my pots have male fittings on them. Pump inputs have female. A lot of my system is hard plumbed. I just use hoses for jumpers. I went with the ball locks. They are pricey, but bulletproof. I imagine that cam locks are the next best thing. I would stay away from tri-clamps. A buddy of mine put them on his, and he is regretting that decision. With them you ALWAYS need two hands. And 99.99% of the time, there are some threads SOMEWHERE on the cold side which negates their purpose.

If you truly have NO THREADS at all in your cold side, and don't mind the fuss, then tri-clamps are the way to go.
