Thermostat for Fermentation Chiller

Sat Aug 18, 2012 6:46 pm

I'm trying to build another one of these: http://www.wortomatic.com/articles/38DD ... on-Chiller

But I'm having trouble finding a suitable thermostat with an accessible thermistor. I'd like to modify the thermostat as described here: http://www.wortomatic.com/articles/Remo ... s-Than-$25

Any suggestions for a thermostat that will work other than the RiteTemp 8029b? Thanks for your suggestions and expertise!

search ebay for "aquarium temperature controller" model is STC-1000. I have used both the home thermostat and these. If you are trying to do a lager, you may not be able to set the home thermostat to a low enough temperature. The main downside to the STC-1000 is that it only reads out in Celsius. But it can be set to control a device that refrigerates and a device that heats. Also the STC-1000 has a fairly robust relay in it such that it can a fair amount of power through it's circuitry. I am able to control a small chest freezer with it.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to give the STC 1000 a shot. We'll see what happens!

The STC1000 works great. Took me a little while to get the wiring done correctly, but it does a great job. Thanks!
