I have my Schmidling Maltmill set at .039". The recommended base setting is .045". At .060" I think you might be sacrificing efficiency.

Hmmm. Greater than 70% efficiency. Are you sure you measured the gap properly? Sounds like whatever is going on, you've got it working well!

i set mine on the loose side as i was sticking every mash. never used the tun with my present setting.

I didn't mark mine either.
I just adjust it till I'm happy.
