430 Stainless steel grade.

Is 430 stainless steel safe for homebrew use a HTL, mash tun and brew kettle? Tks.

In terms of corrosion resistance you should be perfectly fine.

The only issue with 430 is if you are going to weld on it. It can become brittle in the weld area and can be prone to fatigue failure due to the heat of the welding process. They actually use it to make kitchen utensils, among other things.

304 is cheaper, more weldeable and easy to come by. That's what my MT and my old kettle are made from.

the 400 series SSTs are becoming almost pandemic in the food industry because it works on Induction stove tops. So it's almost impossible to get a SST pot that is not one of the 400 series steels .

Mind you, I can count the number of induction stove tops I've sen in restaurants or homes on the fingers of - - well - - I haven't seen or heard of any, and I know a lot of restauranteurs.

I suppose in the big hotels they are becoming common for stock pots and such?
