Aughh first of all it's Rheostat... but who am I Mirriam Webster, fuck I can barely speel my own name.

Different kinds of motors... the stirplate motors tend to be a magnetic ipulse and wound motors use brushes. What the hell this means and why it makes a difference I don't know... perhaps it is an AC /DC thing.

Thanks bug for the site info will check it out

As far as motors, wound motors us ac current applied through coils and to an armature to turn the output shaft if loaded to heavy or improper current is applied can you say fried.
Magnetic motors still use coils to create the magnetic attraction but use a magnet in place of the armature the big plus with these is low heat out put you can overload the motor until it stalls without damage disadvantages small power ratings.

Damn why haven't I thought of this. I have a dishwasher just sitting in my basement collecting dust. Keep us posted, if it works for you I will gut the one I have and have a ghetto brewing pump. It will go well with the rest of my cobbled together brewery!
