Blichman Boilermaker Dip tube

Tue Dec 01, 2009 6:15 am

I've got one on the way to be used as a boil kettle and need a plan for using dip tube. I was thinking about stuffing a stainless steel scrubbie underneath it and just draining into my better bottle.

I don't have a pump yet, but might try to get a whirlpool going before dropping the immersion chiller in to keep the hops away from the tube.

Any better ideas?

They make a kettle screen and strainer for use in their brewpots.

Yeah, that does look nice, but I've already spent a ton on the kettle and I plan on getting a pump and whirlpooling eventually, so just thinking of something cheap to hold me over.

Look at this picture

You could make something similar.
Looks like a 1/2" copper 45 deg fitting with a hole drilled for the dip tube and some stainless screen clamped to either side. You could use the stainless mesh off a laundry hose for the screen and clamp a brass pipe plug on the open ends.
