After the infection...

Sat Aug 01, 2009 4:20 am

So, I had an infected batch of beer with the last brew day.
I have been really gun shy about getting back, because I was heartbroken.
But now, it is time.
I have washed, cleaned, bleached and StarSan'ed all my gear and buckets. Yes I still brew in plastic.

Is it safe to go back in the water, or do I need to scrap the old buckets and start over? This will not be as easy as for me as it is for you guys.
Living in Brussels, Belgium there is no handy HBS and shipping is a killing me.

My vote is go for it.....I had an infected beer once, just gotta make sure everything is ready to go, and jump feet first back into it!

Just make sure your buckets don't have any scratches in them, and maybe replace your vinyl tubing if possible.

Never give up...never surrender.

Now get brewing!!!

I was heartbroken when my lager reached 65° a couple weeks ago. If you want good beer, you just gotta swallow it (I said swallow) and keep moving.

I had a few batches that were infected back to back. I ended up figuring out it was the buckets I was using. I ditched those and recommend you do the same. I think buckets are fine to ferment in as long as you are careful not to scratch them and get them VERY clean and sanitized. However, I would not recommend using the same bucket for more than 3 or 4 batches.
