Flush pick up tube?

To all of the guys that weld their own kegs: have you ever seen or welded a flush pick-up tube in the bottom of a keg?
A friend of mine was given a keg that had a 1/2" nipple that was coped at the same angle as the bottom of the keg. It was then passed through a hole in the skirt and welded to the bottom. When a Sabco style false bottom is dropped in there is no need for a hole in it or a pick-up tube through it. He uses it only for his mash tun. I don't think it would work for a boil kettle, bolling liquid in the tube might do funny.
I owe someone a favor and he wants me to weld his keg like this. If anyone has done it drop me a line with any hints.

PS: safety first when welding in your :nutters:
Normal is getting dressed and driving through traffic in a car that you are still paying for, in order to get the job you need to pay for the cloths and the car and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

I have seen it before on line. I think I have also heard Mc Dole say that this is how is system is set up. So try emailing Tasty and check on the NB forum, as that is where I thought I had seen that set up before.

I have a setup like this on my mash tun. There is a difference though. I have my drain right out the bottom of the keg dead center. I have a SS union installed and then it shoots out just under the lower lip of the keg. I use the sabco false bottom with great results. I was going to do the same thing for my boil keggle and just extend the tub donw through the center of a wok burner, but never got around to it. My thought process was if the tube was vertical and not in direct contact with the flame there should be minimal scorching or flashing steaming. Anyone else tried this?
Prost!
