Paint Mixer for Whirlpool

Wed Apr 15, 2009 11:25 pm

Hey guys,

Has anyone tried using something like this for whirlpooling in the kettle? http://doitbest.com/Drywall+tools-Exaco-model-EM120-doitbest-sku-343722.dib Seems to me that it would work like a charm (at a low speed, of course) to whirlpool while i'm chilling, sorta producing the same effect as everyone's favorite brewer Jamil's nifty whirlpool chiller. Plus I wouldn't have to buy a pump. :D

Also: suck it, Schuman (he won't even read this, but maybe somewhere he's crying) :asshat:

i looked into that a while back as well, but personally, not being stainless steel is concerning to me. Id be worried about the plating coming off after a while. Just have the machine shop weld ya up a stainless mixer :?
or just suck it, buy a pump, build the chiller and not worry about it anymore!

I'm gonna try something like that when I brew this weekend. I'll let you know how it works.

I use that Paint mixer to mix up my grains and water during mashing. Makes quick work and any dough balls.

I used exactly that to aerate for a while, and it worked great. Only problem I had was that it rusted very quickly. I had better luck with a paint stirrer that was a little plastic propeller on a chrome shaft. I used that thing for many many batches and still have it in the spare parts box.

I used one yesterday, it worked pretty good. I think I need to make a lid with a hole in it though. I don't like leaving my wort uncovered while cooling.
