Heating blankets for a 100L Mash Tun?

Tue Mar 17, 2009 6:11 am

Anyone have any experience using heating blankets to maintain the temp on a 100L mash tun (as used in the older Morebeer 20 gallon systems)?

I'd like to do a sour mash for a Berliner weisse and would like to maintain the temp somewhere between 100-110F for 24-48 hours.

Thanx. :bnarmy:

I don't see why that wouldn't work. Tape your temp controller probe to the outside (under some insulation) like it's lagering in your ferm fridge. Wrap the whole tun in the blanket, and set it at 100 or so. Check with a thermometer a couple of times to ensure that it's stable enough to leave overnight. You may need to bump up or down your set point, but it should stablize and will get that lactic acid flowing-
