Hey guys, I just got a hold of one of Tysons stir plate boards and it works great. But I am looking for Magnets to buy at a walk in store in Sacramento. I don't want to wait for mail delivery. Does anyone know where you can get strong magnets? Is that some thing a hardware store usually carries?

thanks

Rare Earth magnets work really well. I have found them at a local woodworking store. You may want to check to see if you have such a place.

Do you have any old hardrives lying around? You can take the magnets of it and use them. I believe there are two in there. I built a stir plate similar to what’s on OneBeer.net (http://onebeer.net/sp_howto.shtml) site and I am able to spin a 2000ML flask with no problems.

I've got a Hanna Instruments HI 190M stir plate that's worked great up until now. Earlier today there was a nice vortex in the wort. Now, nothing. When the power is on at the lowest setting the stir bar is attracted to the stir plate. But, no activity is seen/heard when I increase the power (only change is that the power led starts to flicker slightly with the frequency increasing with the motor speed).

Thoughts on what's gone wrong and is it worth trying to fix?

Thanks.
