The rare earth magnest are strong as hell. Trust me, those are the right ones. They need to be strong to get through the stir plate case and the glass bottom of the flask. I had a bitch of a time getting the little bastards apart.
Be careful handling them. If they try to stick together with that little flap of skin between your thumb and index finger in the way, they can hurt like hell. Oh, and they'll erase shit like the mag strip on your credit cards and your iPod, too.
One more thing. Don't use a metal case. Use a plastic one. Magnets spinning below a metal plate will only induce electric current in the metal, and the magnetic field won't reach the stir bar.
HTH-
Thanks again. I bought the plastic project box from Radio Shack.
Your advice above made me wonder what the stir bar is. Here is the design I'm going with:
http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/my-stir ... ild-86252/I thought the magnet on the washer was all I needed to make the starter stir.
Sheesh...just when I thought I was ready to build something.

EIDT: Never mind. I figured it out.
DAMMIT!!! Now I have to wait til that sumbitch comes in!
