I like them. I do the same as mentioned with cleaning. Soak overnight ( or several days in my case ) and shake the hell out of it. I used the orange carboy caps on them and attached 1/2 ID hose to one of the spouts for a blow off tube. Did a Dunkelweizen this past summer with no problem. If you use an airlock, be careful when picking them up because it will suck back into the BB. I put mine in a milk crate to carry around.

I have a big scar on my wrist from a broken coffee cup years ago, so I'm a little nervous around glass.

I just attach tubing to the inside of the airlock... just take off the cap and the "floater", and attach the tubing to the "up pipe" thing.

The only drawback I've experienced is that they are only 6 gallons vs. 6.5 compared to carboys so I have to use the blow off tube method more than with the carboy or buckets, and the mouth of the BB is wider so you have to get creative with the size of the tubing. I found that a 1.75" OD spa hose works well if you wrap a little electricians tape around the end of it to make a tight seal in the BB opening. No problems since.

Go for it!

I think I'll run into the scratching thing on a regular basis with any plastic product. The website was also informative. I still have a few more weeks to make a decision, but I think I'm going to try them out. Thanks again for all the input. Good looking out for the blow off!

Do they take longer to cool or warm-up if I were to lager in them?

Well, I would think that the plastic is more responsive to heat than glass, simply because its much thinner, but the thermal mass of the liquid inside it would be so big compared to the container itself that the difference between them is likely negligible.
