A Free Fridge?

Wed Aug 27, 2008 6:31 am

Hey all, I came across a website that doesn't have anything to do with brewing, but could be very beneficial to brewers. The organization is called Freecycle and their purpose is to keep garbage out of landfills by finding new owners for it. You register (no cost) and will start to see emails from people that live around you offering stuff before they throw it away (nothing can be sold on this site). Some people even ask for stuff and if you happen to have what they are looking for and you don't want it anymore, they'll come take it off your hands. The reason I thought I'd throw this out here is because I often see working refrigerators come up for offer in my area. Free fridge + $60 thermo = pretty cheap fermentation vehicle!! I have no affiliation with this company, offer no guarantees and warn you that it may suck for you so use at your own risk and don't come bitchin to me if you have problems! But my experience has been very positive and beneficial, and hey, it doesn't hurt that it helps the environment a little...

It's associated with Yahoo, so go to that engine and search freecycle. It's pretty easy to get setup.

Cheers!

Yea Freecycle. I've gotten 3 fridges from the group in Shreveport, LA (the first one way a POS so got another and gave the 3rd to a friend that is getting started brewing). You have to check regularly b/c fridges/freezers go fast, as you could imagine.

I love freecycle too. I have gotten some good bottles before and almost had another fridge. I did get an old school Kelvinator fridge from craigslist once. It only holds 2 carboys but its great for lagering.

It really does work great....and bayou hit it on the nose. The good stuff goes fast so you really gotta be watching your inbox and be the first to reply and have to be able to pick up pretty quickly. Still waiting for the day that I see an offer for a conical! hahahahahaha
