the money shot. Results! I add PVPP to the fermentor before filtering and with the 1 micron I get diamond bright beer with no chill haze, every single time.

Thirsty...Just finally dawned on me that you stated you also use PVPP. Have you compared the difference between adding PVPP and filtering vs. just filtering?

I just filtered a German Pils with a 1 micron absolute cartridge filter and expected crystal clear beer, but still had a chill haze. May try the PVPP addition next time, but wanted if you have noticed a difference when not using PVPP and filtering.

Sorry for the dumb question....

What is PVPP?

I'm looking at filtering soon after listening to the lagering BS episode.

Sweet. Gooing to pick some up.

Do you put it in during fermentation or just before filtering?

I have used anywhere from 1/4oz to 1/8oz after fermentation is complete and the yeast have cleaned up. Word of warning: That stuff works VERY well, do not get heavy handed with it.

Poly Clar (PVPP) is added prior to any filtering or final racking to kegs/bottling. You dont have to filter after adding PVPP, but you need to make sure it has settled out completely so it doesnt get picked up by your kegs dip tube.

Ok. So, how long would you give it? With that statement, I'm not sure I want to mess with it, now. :)

I believe it takes 24-48 hours to clear the beer. Leaving it in longer does not affect the beer.
