What new equipment do I need to move to AG?

Tue Nov 28, 2006 8:37 pm

I have the standard extract stuff, been brewing for a couple years... What do I need to move to all grain?

I guess I need that orange cooler thing with a screen on the bottom (mash tun?) Anything else?

PS - Can I build one of the orange cooler thingers?

Hey start here and read this. http://www.tastybrew.com/articles/dennyconn001 You will probably need a bigger boil pot 2 but take a look at this link for the cheap and easy all grain.

The word on the BN is that you can use aluminum and your kids wont' come out all f'd up. If they do, blame Justin. He's the one who said it was all good....or was it Palmer? Whatever!

I have talked to a few local professional cooks and got the same answers. That cooking in aluminum is ok. The ph isn't going to cause anything that you can't consume. The theory that aluminum causes alzhimers has been shot down (it doesn't seem to have any effect on my bad spelling though :) ). I have made a few batches with aluminum and one with SS with little or no difference in the two. Then again I don't plan on keeping my beers around for a long time. I'm going to Justin them. They'll be gone in about a month.

My brew kettle is an aluminium kroenenburg keg. No obvious increase in in my mental retardation levels just yet.

My apartment's windows somehow seem cleaner on the inside though....
