Re: Why? How?

I did a double brew this past weekend, a honey cream ale and Drew Beechum's cherrywood smoked mild, and hit all my numbers on the nose. The brew in question was just a good example of sloppy brewing. I hadn't quite dialed in my new system, obviously wasn't paying close enough attention, and just blew all my numbers. For this last brew day, I was up at 6 am, coffee in hand, started the brew day with focus and STAYED SOBER through both brews and boom. Got what I was looking for.

It just tells me that I'm screwed. No way I'm staying sober for every brew.

I always like to brew early, with coffee in hand. Even if I don't get an early start, I still never start drinking until the boil is well underway. And that's from someone who knows their system extremely well.

I do have to say, making my electric brew system in the basement did kill the whole "early morning out in the driveway, watching the sun come up with coffee in hand, mash resting as I sit in my lawn chair and enjoy the birds chirping" aspect of brewing.

Kids also destroyed most of that.

Well, winters in Michigan destroy that about 8 months out of the year, too. But I am fortunate enough to have an indoor AND outdoor system to adapt to the weather. As far as the kids go, keep them up super late the night before with "fun kid time". Make them some snacks, give them some soda and a couple movies to watch and tell them they have an adult free night in the living room. Then go to bed so you can get up early. The secret is, put Benedryl in the soda. The little shits will fight the sleep so hard and then sleep until fucking noon.

I already drug my daughter every night with benedryl for her skin/allergy "issues" and she is still up 3-4 times a night for 10-30 minutes each and then gets up at 6am. "They" said she would grow out of it....they were wrong.
