First Brew Session Since 2009!

Sun Jan 17, 2016 5:34 pm

My username used to be UCFLumberjack but I haven't been to UCF in a while and my knickname is buffalo now so I figured I would just use my real name this time around.

So I finally starter brewing beer again. I'm pretty dam excited about it! I'm living in an apartment at the moment so I'm just using a cooler and doing batch sparges for 4 gallon boils.

First beer went like this:
8# Marris Otter
1# Briess Crystal 40
1oz Fuggle for 60 minutes
1oz Fuggle for 10 minutes
Danstar Nottingham Ale Yeast

Collected and boild 4 gallons of wort down to about 3.5 gallons for a starting gravity of 1.065

Sidenote: are bub, blaubergawp, doc, tasty, jp etc... still around? JZ is a pro brewer now? WTF is going on?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Welcome back! I don't remember if we chatted or argued back then, but we chewed some of the same turf.

I was out of the game for 14 years and came back. It stays in your blood. :-)

Congrats lumberjack! I'm running similar numbers here. Havent brewed since 2010 or so and after a batch a few months back, I'm back at it in full force!

Sure! That would be cool, so I can look at my old posts etc... Can you change the email that's associated with the old account to the email that's associated with this account so I'll be able to change my pw?

My beer turned out good but it's under carbonated, could have been a little more bitter and had more hop flavor/aroma. I brewed another one, more of a british strong ale or a big ESB, it's still carbonating but I'll post up some results when it's ready. The next one will be a hop burst pale ale. I've already upgraded to an 8 gallon kettle, a propane burner and a 10 gallon cooler lol... It's been fun to brew some beer again, now I just need to meet up with the local brewing club here in Phoenix!
