Hmmm... I knew hops are toxic to dogs (although there seems to be some controversy about it), but didn't know you would add hops to the mash. I'm guessing, given the relatively low temperature of the mash, that those hops add more flavor than bittering, right? :?

I think I'd rather spend my spare time focusing on planning, brewing and drinking more homebrew instead. I still throw all mine in the compost pile. The racoons and skunks love me.

You're looking at it all wrong. Selling spent grain bars would give you more money for brewing...

If the timing works out I bring it to a guy I work with so he can feed it to his cows. If the timing doesnt work it goes in the dumpster.

I give it to a local hog farmer and the owners of my brewery take some to feed to their chickens.

I wasn't aware of the toxicity of hops to animals. I've put some fresh/spent hops in the mash in the past and both the farmer and the brewery's owners claimed that the animals simply shifted aside the hops to get to the grain and otherwise ignored them.

Are dogs as smart as hens or hogs...?

We give ours to our sheep and chickens too. We are mindful of the possibility of bloat with the sheep and watch them carefully. The nine of them can plow through a batch worth of grain pretty quickly.
