Help with starter math.....

I am doing a starter today. I want to do 5500 ml of wort, how much DME to get about a 1.040 OG for the starters (2 X 2000 ml). Or better asked how much DME per 500 ML.

I do a simple 1 cup/1 quart, period. It's about 1.040.

Thanks all, as normal I am over analyzing it…. I just modified my normal starte and got a 1.044 starter…. I hope it will work, see my next post about brewing American wheat for the next question….

An easy way to remember is 10 parts water (ml) to 1 part DME (gram) gets you a fairly ideal starter gravity of around 1.036.

There is nothing easy about the metric system... :cry:

They told me they would switch when they forced me to learn it in school... and then they didn't...LIARS!

I'll stick with my 1 CUP per QUART thank you VERY much!

Nothing wrong with your method.

I use the metric method, because it is really easy to scale. For example, my canning jars hold 800 ml to the right fill point. I weigh out 80 grams of DME, toss it in each jar, fill to the line. Done.

Same thing for most flasks, as they are mostly in metric.
