Popped the cherry on the borrowed system ... had some issues with QD seals, so limped through one batch on that system and brewed two batches on my system on Saturday. Followed it up with a fourth batch on Sunday during a snow storm and used the borrowed system to boil/cool 15 gallons of water to dilute the concentrated wort. Finally pitched the yeast at 11:00 P.M. Sunday night. Spent Monday morning cleaning both systems with PBW.

In all, It went well and now I have a year to see how it turns out.

Heating up the ice... err... water for a -5F brew day. Bobcat Brown with a mineral experiment.

Edit: Just checked the thermometer again. It's warmed up to a balmy +0.8F. Better dig out the :nutters:

Brewed a Belgian Dubble New Years Day. Had flow issues with a hose braid screen under the false bottom and slow starting Belgian Abbey yeast but I think she'll be alright.
Happy New Year Brothas! :jnj

Brewing and watching the playoff games Saturday with a blistering 29F forecast. :nutters: and an :asshat: all the way. I guess the Viking and Packers fans wouldn't have it any other way.

Well it's in the fermenter & bubbling away after 8 hours, but that was a rough brew day. Made the rookie mistake of not being 110% prepped the day before. Everything was weighed, measured & laid out, but I figured since most brew days I'm surfing the forum listening to the pump HERMS'n away (& listening for one of the thermometer alarms, just in case), I was just going to spend that time cleaning the conical it was headed for. I had the brilliant idea that I didn't need the return manifold, thinking more about the thermometer on it than it's actual return capabilities. The sparge. Fuck that sparge & fuck it hard. I haven't had that many problems fly sparging since... umm... maybe my very first go at it. It was a fucking wreck & a half. To all you new AG brewers still assembling your systems, I feel for you all over again. I didn't go dry or overflow, but I sure as hell wasn't cleaning a fermenter. And the top of the grain bed looked like the Swiss Alps. Magically still got my pre-boil, so I don't think I channeled out or anything, but it was rough.
