Who, me?????? Just the usual...give it a go, stay calm when things screw up, take good notes so you can fix it the next time. And no drinking til the wort's in the fermenter![/quote]

Well said Denny! A rule I follow when I brew by myself. It never fails that when I drink during the brewday, something always goes wrong (minor or major) and I can't think quickly enough to fix it!

I think that's why I keep forgetting to add my whirlfloc and yeast nutrient at 10 mins. Even when it's written on my brew schedule! I try to hold off, but I have no will power.

rice hulls

There are so many causes of the stuck sparge.
One that is more common than many think is the incomplete starch conversion.
The gluey goo of unconverted starches will stick anything up tighter than - - well - - tight.

Stir your mash.
After you do a starch test and a good conversion do a stir of the mash & test again or just take a sample from deep inside the MT and test that.

If the mash has cold spots the starches won't have converted
HEY~!! It's a hobby~!! It's NOT supposed to make sense~!!
