On a side note, can I fit enough grain into a 5-gallon Gott Igloo for all-grain brewing? Whhere will I cap OG at based upon average efficiency...or I guess I am asking how many pounds of grain can I get into it with 1-1.25 quarts of water per pound?

Thanks.

i use 1 burner and still mash out.
Hoowever i do it differently than most.
I heat my sparge water to 185* and sparge with that.
by the time i'm half way done sparge the mash temp has come up to 168 or so. I had to fool arounf with the hlt temp for a while to get it where i didn't go over 170*. i just monitor my mash temp while sparging.
I have never leeched tannens with this method and i still achieve mashout . even though i agree with the others that mashout is not really needed i still do it because thats what i'm used to.
I brewed at a brewery for a while and even they don't mashout.

Using a ratio of 1.25 qts/lb you can mash 12.5 pounds of grain and it will take up just under 5 gallons of mash tun volume.

There is a mash volume calc about half way down the page here
Three out of four people make up 75% of the worlds population.

Great link. Suppose I could have run a mash in ProMash since I realized it calculates total mash volume as well, but the site link is very handy. Thanks!
