Re: First Lager

The beer turned out great. The flavor was exactly as desired. I never need to buy a commercial Mexican lager again!

BUT there was one major problem...Serious keg malfunction!

The day after hooking up the Co2 to carbonate I noticed a wet spot on my carpet. That's when I discovered an EMPTY keg. There must have been a leak somewhere in the system because all 5 gallons was on my carpet. Devastated, I sat on the floor crying...the day before our party.

Planning thorough keg testing for all future batches!

Used a two step starter first a 1500 ml & then a 2500 ml. which did give me a kick ass fermentation.

I was a little scared I didn't have a large enough pitch...first lager worries. Didn't have time to make a proper starter, but I put two vials in a 1000ml starter the morning of brew day. I figured it would at least wake the yeast up a little.

Whatever I did worked...fermentation started quickly and finished in less than 5 days. Not at all what I expected from a lager.

So sorry to hear about that. Always frustrating when you spend the time and money on a beer only to lose it all! Nothing like pouring one out for all the dead homeys.....
