Horrible day all in all. After the fiasco with the screen my burner took a crap on me. Then I had a stuck sparge that I couldn't get past. I only ended up getting about 8.5 gallons of wort from what started out as an 11 gallon batch. It was one of those days that makes me ask myself why I spend so much time, energy and money brewing when I could just go out and buy some beer. :(

Been there before my friend... Just hang in there and Never, I repeat Never, end your brewing adventure with a day like that. The knowledge and tricks you picked up from this brew day will never be forgotten and will truly only serve to make you a better, more aware brewer. Schedule another brew day as soon as possible and get back up on that horse and give it another shot!

Cheers!

Because it's fun and relaxing.

Too soon?

Because you can save so much money when you make it yourself!
Because you KNOW you can make beer that is WAY better than that Russian River and Dogfish crap they sell at the store.
Because you can wallow in joy when the office jackass who "doesn't drink beer" will take one sip and then dump out the rest because he "doesn't like dark beer". Then you get to listen to him drone on about how awesome wine is.
Because its awesome to find that your kid hid snot-covered crayons and matchbox cars in your fermenter.
Because you know your wife gets really turned on now that you can generate so much of that "unique aroma" after drinking a few of your own beers.
Because you knew you needed to repaint the ceiling and buy a whole new set of coats and sweaters.
Because where else can you call some dude an asshat and get away with it?

I suppose you're right.

I really need to be taking much more advantage of this whole "Asshat Privilege" thing

When I was buying grains for this batch and the guy at LHBS asked me if I wanted them milled and I said no he said something about not needing to milled the flaked wheat or oats anyway. I paid little attention to this & I ran them through my mill like I had done last time I made this recipe. No problems whatsoever last time. After cleaning out my mash tun I found my bazooka screen filled/clogged with debris. Could milling these flakes have caused a stuck sparge?? Stuck sparge may not be the right term, it may be something different. The clog wasn't in the grain bed, it was inside my screen.

Should I remove the EMERGENCY!! designation from the thread title? Or am I even able?

Yep.

Should you remove the "EMERGENCY"?
Nah. Just leave it.
