Sounds somewhat anecdotal... dilution leading to lower count?

He tells a story of a friend who did a yeast cell count before and after sanitizing with star-san (without rinsing). There was a measurable drop in cells, and henceforth, he rinses. However, this was yeast in direct contact with a sanitized surface, not for instance, yeast added to a carboy filled with wort at a higher ph. Either way, he rinses everything except hose connections.

That is odd because Five Star says that yeast will eat star san which is one reason not to worry about the foam.

This is actually a planned experiment. Hopefully I'll get to it in the next 2 weeks or so.
