got another 50# sack of Rahr Pilsen. I planned on trying out another malt for my 2nd sack, but the closest HBS had either this or Simpsons Golden Promise, which was about $65. I stared at it for a while, contemplating. in the end, back to what I know. is there any base you sock monkeys get religiously?

Golden Promise is a AWESOME base malt.
But, you are right, its pricey.

+1 GP Fawcett or Simpsons, thinking about some Optic or Halcyon too!

I am a huge fan of the Fawcett Maris Otter. It gives you an awesome British biscuity malt flavor. :jnj

My three go-to's are Fawcett Maris Otter, Bestmalz Pilsner, and Dingemann's Pilsner malt. All are fantastic and reasonably priced by me.

weyermann pilsner malt and wheat, simpsons golden promise...whichever maris otter is available by the sack at he homebrew shop(it's usually muntons).
On Deck: Bier de Garde, Northern German Pils
In Fermenters: Homegrown Pale Ale
in keg: Octoberweizen, Dusseldorf Alt

Generally good old American pale ale malt. Tried and true
On tap:
Secondary: Experimental IPA
Primary: IIPA, (Half of which is being poured at a beerfest!)
