Pressure cooker decoction

Thu Nov 02, 2006 6:09 am

I'm finally getting around to listening to the decoction show - one of the most information packed Sunday shows ever, I think - and have a small issue with the comments about using a pressure cooker to heat your decoction.

Doc says "why bother, makes no difference over an open boil, spinning your wheels, blah, blah blah."

Well, sure, because Doc has his stir-bitch Justin there doing the hard work, he sees no difference at all. Doc's just kicking back in a lawn chair pointing at stir-boy and screaming out with his little voice "STIR mother f*&^%er STIR!"

Well, since I don't have a stir-bitch at my house I like to fire up the pressure cooker, put some foil over the top of the grain so the vent doesn't get clogged, and let it heat up WITH NO STIRRING REQUIRED!

Even if there is no difference otherwise, the elimination of stirring seems like a HUGE benefit to me.

:D He said Justin is Docs stir bitch.

:? I'd be ok with being a stir bitch for Doc. I could learn a lot from just being there. :)
