I think i got away with it because i didn't know I wasn't supposed to be able to do it.
Of course, Pushes mash tun looks pretty damn full, so maybe there is an upper limit to the tolerances......

I used to do this alot w/ my old system (10gal round cooler) when I was making belgian triples and the like. Start w/ a thick mash 1qt/lb or so and you should be fine.
