25 lbs in a 10 gallon igloo

Can I mash 25 lbs of grain in a 10 gallon Igloo cooler. I use a bazooka T screen and was going to use a 1.25 qt to lbs ratio. Could go down to 1 qt I guess if I had to. Also will be batch sparging if that matters.

I mashed 14+ lb in a 5 gal cooler. This would be 28+lb for 10gal.

But I had to put the lid on the other way around since I couldn't push it into the cooler. The mash came all the way up to the rim .

I mashed 9lb in a 2.6 gallon mash tun, thats 34ish pounds in a 10 gallon. It was a bit of work and required 4 "batches" and a pretty thick mash. But it came out OK.

I think i got away with it because i didn't know I wasn't supposed to be able to do it.

Of course, Pushes mash tun looks pretty damn full, so maybe there is an upper limit to the tolerances......

I used to do this alot w/ my old system (10gal round cooler) when I was making belgian triples and the like. Start w/ a thick mash 1qt/lb or so and you should be fine.

me too, thick mash 1qt/lb and I've gone as high as 26.5 pounds for a 5 gallon batch.
