Using a pump to fill a HLT or BK- through the Spigot?

Nah.

Pressure is about the height, not the volume of the vessle you are pumping into. Like Bub said, it would take just as much pumping power to push it up and over the edge of your vessel as to fill it through the spigot.

There will be back pressure, but no more than there would be in the hose going over the top.

Which is exactly what I said.

More water in the keg = more height = more pressure.

I think we're all saying the same thing, just in slightly different ways.

To answe the original question 'yes, you can pump through the tap'.

A few brews ago I heated my sparge water to the perfect temp, and pumped over through the spigot with my 809ss as usual.
I vorlaufed and set up my sparge arm.
turned on the sparge arm valve and..... no sparge water!!
Forgot to close the HLT ball valve and all of my sparge water syphoned back into the kettle.
It dropped 20* and had to be reheated, re-pumped and then i could continue.

Anybody ever do that?
I had a good laugh when i couldn't find my sparge water.
