Should I pour it out?

Thu Jan 30, 2014 12:10 pm

I made a 1.075 pale ale.
re hydrated dry west coast ale yeast with go_frem. 36h lag faze. I am getting a suffer smell. the hydrometer sample(1.014) I refrigerate to drop the yeast out does not taste good....
Its still fermenting.
This is not a lager yeast...
Dump it and start fresh?
Or transfer/age see what happens, open my primary to start another beer?

I'd transfer it and warm it up a couple degrees. Get those yeast active to drive off some of that sulfur and clean up after themselves. After another week or so, if it still tastes bad, then consider dumping it.

edit: Hoodie mentions in this thread there was a strong sulfur smell, if this is the same yeast you're using viewtopic.php?f=&t=30551

What other info can you give us? Brew date? Anything quirky with the brew or fermentation (other than smell & lag, of course)? Known recipe or something you whipped up? Etc.

Brewed 7 days ago.
11lb pale
2.4lb sugar (table)
2 Oz each of Bravo and Apollo
65 ibu boil/ late hoops
Mash 52° for 120min
Brew in bag / 5.2 stabilizer
my brew day went well.
I rehydrated 14 grams of dry yeast per Mr malty.
I used go firm for rehydrating. Pitched 78°f yeast into 64° beer.
I raise the temperature up to 68 after 24 hours. fermentation looked very sluggish/ the yeast in the beer you could see moving around very slowly, so I raise the temperature is 70 degrees.
after pique yeast activity I took a hydrometer reading. because they're still sulfur smell I raise the temperature to 75.
ill take another hydrometer reading this weekend...

Pouring out a beer shouldn't even cross your mind at 7 days. Hell I probably wouldn't have even taken a hydrometer reading yet. Don't worry about it, let the yeast do their thing & quit pestering them.

Yup. If you were reproducing for all you're worth and some dude kept tapping you on the shoulder, asking "Are you done yet? Are you done yet?"... you might make bad odors just to fuck with him too.
