Help launch Alibi Ale Works - Lake Tahoe's next brewery!

Fri Nov 30, 2012 12:51 am

Hey BN Army, after 15 years of homebrewing I'm finally taking the plunge and opening a brewery in Kings Beach, on the north shore of Lake Tahoe (where I live)! It's called Alibi Ale Works. Some of you may have heard Scott the Jew's mention of us on the 11/11/12 Sunday Session. We're starting with a 3-bbl system and will be using our tasting room and weekly growler club as our R&D team to refine our beers and dial in our beer line-up over the first couple years. We’re excited to produce experimental beers that Tahoe locals can be proud of and to help catalyze a craft beer revolution here in Lake Tahoe! (which is desperately needed!) We're using kickstarter.com to raise the start-up capital we need to buy the 3-bbl brewing system and misc equipment needed to build out the brewery. I would really appreciate your support (before December 21st!), either by making a pledge on kickstarter (as low as $10) and/or by helping us spread the word to other craft beer-loving, entrepreneur-supporting people...particularly people who live near and/or visit Lake Tahoe. Below are a few more details on Alibi Ale Works and our kickstarter fundraising campaign. Check out our kickstarter page (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/171 ... iously-tas) to learn more about who we are, what we're doing, and why you should support us.

Cheers! Kevin Drake (thedrake)

Who is Alibi Ale Works?
Alibi Ale Works is a start-up artisan brewery founded by homebrewing veteran Kevin Drake and serial entrepreneur/plumbing extraordinaire Rich Romo. Both North Tahoe locals have had the itch to start a brewery for many years and are excited to be pooling their collective talents to open Kings Beach’s first and only brewery in early 2013. Rich and Kevin will be producing relatively small 3-barrel batches (~100 gallons) in order to offer a wide range of beer styles/flavors and be responsive to community feedback. You can expect progressive interpretations of traditional beer styles as well as experimental beers using local ingredients, wild fermentation techniques, and wood barrel aging. Alibi Ale Works is not going to be your ordinary brewery…

What is a CSB?
CSB stands for Community Supported Brewing, and we’re borrowing from the CSA (community-supported agriculture) model where people pre-pay to receive weekly boxes of fresh veggies from a local farm for 3-12 months at a time. This model creates a strong connection between the producer and the consumer, and we think it’s the perfect way to get tasty beer to our local community. Pre-pay for a 3, 6, or 12 month subscription and pick up a ½ gallon stainless steel “growler” (64oz, about the same amount of beer as a 6-pack) of fresh, locally-made beer each week at the brewery or at our Truckee and Tahoe City drop sites.

Why join the Alibi CSB?
Alibi Ale Works is committed to making beer that is experimental yet highly drinkable, complex yet unpretentious. Our CSB members (the Alibi Brew Crew) will be our R&D team, getting first dibbs on new beers, helping us refine recipes and create a locally-driven beer line-up. Join our CSB before December 21st on kickstarter.com to take advantage of DISCOUNTED prices! Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing deal. We need to reach our funding goal of $35k by December 21st or we can’t buy our brewing equipment and start the brewery and CSB. Your early support is critical - thank you in advance!

Give the gift of beer!
A CSB subscription makes a perfect gift! Sign up on kickstarter and we’ll even email the gift recipient an Alibi Brew Crew membership card on Christmas day!

How do I sign up?
Go to the Alibi Ale Works kickstarter (http://kck.st/SWlR64) and sign up for weekly growlers for:
3 months for $225 (~$12/growler) or
6 months for $400 (~$11/growler) or
12 months for $600 (~$9/growler!)
Note: the descriptions on kickstarter are a bit vague due to laws restricting online alcohol sales. The CSB is referred to as the "growler club" in several of the reward levels ($225, $400, $600).

Not interested in joining the CSB? No problem, you can still help Alibi Ale Works become a reality by helping spread the word and by making a pledge as small as $10 on our kickstarter page (http://kck.st/SWlR64).
