Yes he did. I still cry at night from that day :)

Too many heat transfer, thermodynamics and real world experience. I could not let that argument go. Center mass on the fermenting wort is not at the same temperature as the outside of the fermenter. never will be. But I still love him :)

How do you guys like the fermenters? I once did a temp test using a thermowell and a probe taped to the side of the carboy with think insulation around it and it was within 1 deg. After that, I never worried about it. I would guess that the plastic fermenters wouldnt be much different, however I could be wrong.

Will replicate that next batch. I have a nice Omega 4 channel type K data logger. Will report back.

My experience with the thermowell for Morebeer is that it doesn't seal up. I fermented 2 11 gallon batches in mine and never saw one single bubble from the blowoff tube, but they fermented out just fine. I now tape the probe to the side of the fermenter and insulate with 2-3 layers of cardboard & have had great results.

I have a 1.5" tri clamp ferrule welded to the conical lid paired with a tri clamp thermo-well. No issues with seal.
